Traveling to Vietnam today with my family!

2024-12-22T20:08:00+0800

I've started running the past couple days and oh my god, I did not realize I was this out of shape.

Like I while running I was physically aware that my brain was not getting enough oxygen and my lungswere on fire. My bad smoking habits and just general lack of exercise the past 5 years has not been kind to myrespiratory system. I now know that if for whatever reason I need to run from something or chasesomething for my survival, like getting mugged or a zombie apocalypse, I would not be as prepared asI initially thought I was.

Due to adjusting to timezones from New York to Hong Kong, I've been waking up around 2-3 AM the past few mornings and yes, I could just rot in my room watching videos. And that's exactly what I did for a few hours on friday morning. So I was just laying there when my girlfriend all the way in California told me she was going for a run. She sent me a link where I could view her location and some other stats while she was on her run - I thought it was cute. I felt a sudden burst of motivation to do the same thing (maybe I felt bad that I was just sitting on my ass, maybe not).

I immediately downloaded the app. I thought it would be funny to her if I immediately sent back the same link.

I also got to spend more time with my neice and nephew during our sunday lunch out with the family at the Billow Lake House resturant in Tai Po. It was good food. Not great, but not bad. I ate a lot. I saw a few stray cats out there too and it kind of cemented by desire to adopt one in the very very foreseeable future.

Good morning! It’s 2am.

I'm slowly learning that planning hypothetical trips is kind of fun. Which is weird because I hate planning and for the longest time I haven't liked travelling.

Okay, I'm not quite sure its just hypothetical anymore.

Have you ever seen Vivarium starring Jesse Eisenberg? Or the show Severance? Just woke up to the weirdest dreaming experience I’ve had in a while.

There was no day or night (I’m not even sure there were windows). The whole world as far as I was aware was just an endless labyrinth of apartments. Not that I would know though, I never left the apartment I was in (just like real life! haha).

I wasn’t alone! there were like a dozen other people living out their days at the place. Usually some of them were gathered around this dining table talking and chopping it up - like one of those dating reality shows when they show the contestants in their downtime. I think I remember someone eating cereal. My girlfriend was there! but she didn’t recognize me, which made me sad. Everything was made of either smooth, hard plastic or felt and had bright, saturated colors, despite the rooms being warmly lit. When it rained, the water would fall straight through the ceilings. By the end of it I was freaking out a little bit, noticing all these little things. At some point, I started telling the others about how everything seemed off. I woke up shortly after having one of my friends in the inside taking his top off and showing off his oddly shaped chest.

It felt like one of those movies where, over time, the protagonist slowly realizes they’re not in the real world. I was definitely in the Matrix. Or in a simulation. Or in purgatory. Or in Hell. Or — as it turns out — in a dream.

Hi hehehehe.

My flight back to Hong Kong was around a 5/8. There was a grumpy old man who turned out to be an iPad kid. It was kind of cute watching him watch his downloaded shows on Netflix. I also had a really good panacotta w chocolate (I ended up asking the old man if he was eating his and he said no. I asked him awkwardly if I could eat his. He lowkey hit me with side-eye but it was chill and I ended up with more desert).

7/11 at the airport.

Once I landed in HK and the second I got home mom started talking to me about my future career plans. Super fun. Super productive. I also told my parents that I was thinking of getting a cat when I go back after the holidays and they did not react negatively at all - they just kind of hit me with the "ok" and the "that's on you". I really want to stay in New York for as long as I can.

My first journal entry! I may or may not retroactively add an entry here later. I'll probably do it soon. If this still says this I probably did not.
